palmistry
like the turf
fluorescent sun
pierce right through me
feeding nylon lawns
and float against the creases
palmistry
like the screen distorts
against the creases
a pavlovian rumble at your side
or a re-discovered dollar
fished from the dregs
or a pavlovian rumble at your side
of your virtual pet
live inside your
virtual pet
live inside your
virtual pet
live inside your
side
or a re-discovered dollar
fished from the
light
as it appeared
to respond to
living through me
living through me
living through me
This piece was inspired by the style of Lillian-Yvonne Bertram's Travesty Generator. He used generative tools (http://bensonofjohn.co.uk/poetry/tools/) to re-arrange a poem titled "Depersonalization," which he wrote for this semester's grad poetry workshop course. Using FL Studio, he collaged and distorted two readymade songs ("Fullhouse" by Kate Bush and "Concert for Piano" by Eberhard Weber), then added his own musical arrangements on top of the mix. Finally, he read his re-generated poem over the full arrangement, using tools to "glitch" the audio of his voice, preserving the feeling of detachment and displacement in his original poem. (Accompanying image generated using Dall-E 2 and edited by him.)
Jude Noel is a graduate student in NKU's MAE program and frequently contributes writing to music publications like Pitchfork and Bandcamp Daily. He enjoys going for long runs on cold days.
